NOTICE OF ELECTION

ELECTION of One Councillor

for the Somerton Town Council

  1. An election is to be held for one Councillor for the Somerton Town Council.

 

  1. Forms of nomination paper may be obtained from the Returning Officer, The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil BA20 2HT who will at the request of any elector for the said electoral area, prepare for signature a nomination paper.

 

  1. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 2HT between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm on any working day after the date of this notice (excluding Bank Holidays) but not later than 4 pm on Friday 6 March 2020.

 

  1. If an election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday 2 April 2020.

 

  1. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 17 March 2020. Applications can be made online: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

 

  1. New applications to vote by post and requests to cancel or change an existing postal or proxy vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Council Offices Brympton Way Yeovil by 5 pm on Wednesday 18 March 2020, if they are to be effective for this election.

 

  1. New applications to vote by proxy except on the grounds of a medical emergency must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Council Offices Brympton Way Yeovil by 5 pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020, if they are to be effective for this election.

 

  1. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil BA20 2HT by 5 pm on Thursday 2 April 2020. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020.
